The Cnocan offshore wind farm project located in the Scottish Highlands has received planning permission, which will include a large-scale battery energy storage system.

The Cnocan wind farm is sited in the Ross-Cromarty area and plans to install 17 wind turbines with a maximum blade tip height of 175 meters, with total installed capacity of around 82 megawatts. The wind farm is expected to generate electricity for around 85,000 households annually. Over the project’s operational lifetime, carbon dioxide emissions are predicted to be reduced by 3.058 million tons.

The project developers, Coriolis Energy and ESB, completed an Environmental Impact Assessment and received consent for the project’s development from government authorities in July 2023. The offshore wind and energy storage project will be significant for reducing carbon emissions, improving energy security, and lowering energy costs.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has announced $325 million in funding for long-duration energy storage projects to enhance grid resilience and protect communities. The funding, from the Biden Infrastructure Law, will support 15 projects across 17 states and one Tribal nation to mitigate the risks of grid outages caused by extreme weather events. The funding will help the DOE meet its target of lowering the costs of long-duration energy storage by 90% by 2030, and advance the Biden administration’s clean

Renewable energy company Enlight has commenced commercial operation of its Arad Valley 1 project in Israel, which includes 17MW of solar PV capacity and 31MWh of energy storage. This marks the second solar PV and storage project brought online by Enlight in Israel. Arad Valley 1 is part of a larger cluster of utility-scale solar PV and energy storage projects Enlight is developing in Israel, totaling 248MW of solar PV capacity and 474MWh of energy storage. The full project cluster is
